Electrical Underfloor Heating Questions

Some common questions about electrical underfloor heating

Can I use underfloor heating as the main or only heating system in the house?

Yes. This is often done. If the room has decent insulation then an electrical underfloor heating system is a great option. You will need nothing else.

What sort of flooring material can I use?

Carpet, tile, stone or any flooring material - they are all fine. Tell us what you plan and we will design according to you needs.

What is the running cost?

Electrical underfloor heating is about 20% cheaper than gas systems, provided that the room has decent insulation. Better insulation improves the efficiency.

Do you need specialist skills to install these systems?

While these systems are tricky to design they require only moderate building skill to install. We design kits specifically for you situation.

How long does it take for the floor to heat up?

It depends on the floor type, but 30 minutes to heat the floor and 45 to 90 minutes to heat the room. Concrete takes a little longer. The floor and room will stay warm for about the same amount of time when the system is switched off.

What are timers for? How are they convenient and efficient?

You will not heat your home 24 hours per day, 7 day a week. A timer can be set to switch on the heat so the house is warm when you arrive home. This is convenient as you don’t have to wait for the house to heat up, and efficient because you don’t waste energy heating empty rooms.
